Friday: The Japas Way 0808

Every Friday, we feature a one-on-one Q&A with Japas, our resident curators: Maíra Kimura, Yumi Shimada, and Fernanda Ueno—founders of Japas Cervejaria. They will share their personal reflections on culture, travel, and the everyday moments including their connection to Japan.

Q. What areas do you love visiting in Japan?

Maíra: I love Kyoto for its deep artisanal and historical roots. I’m also drawn to more off-the-radar areas like Ibaraki and Saitama, where nature and innovation coexist. My grandmother’s family was from Tokyo, and my grandfather’s from Wakayama.

Yumi: I enjoy getting lost in Tokyo’s backstreets, but I’d also like to revisit Naoshima—it’s where I had a truly moving experience. Kyoto remains one of my favorite cities.

Fernanda: Tokyo and Kyoto are top picks for me, and Naoshima is high on my list. I’m also curious to explore Fukuoka, especially for its local beer scene.
